How we did the math
- 15 g of coffee per cup. A 12 oz bag makes about 22.7 cups, a 16 oz bag about 30.2, a 28 oz bag about 52.9.
- Ongoing subscription price for one bag, before sales tax. First-order discounts are noted, not ranked.
- Ranked before shipping, so everyone’s compared the same way. Shipping is listed on its own.
- Use your own numbers in our price-per-cup calculator.
Cheapest per bag
Bags aren’t the same size, so price per ounce is the fairer bag-to-bag number. All checked Oct 15, 2026.
| Subscription | Bag | Price per bag | Per ounce |
|---|---|---|---|
| Café Don Pablo (Subtle Earth, 12 oz whole bean) | 12 oz | $11.89 | $0.99 |
| Black Rifle Coffee | 12 oz | $16.99 | $1.42 |
| Dean’s Beans | 16 oz | $17.63 | $1.10 |
| Death Wish | 16 oz | $19.99 at list | $1.25 |
| Atlas Coffee Club (Single) | 12 oz | $20.00 | $1.67 |
| Bean Box (Single Origin, 2-bag plan) | 12 oz | $20.00 | $1.67 |
| Volcanica | 16 oz | $20.69 | $1.29 |
| Starbucks via Amazon | 28 oz | $22.13 | $0.79 |
- The Starbucks bag costs the most up front but the least per ounce: it’s more than twice the size of a 12 oz bag.
Shipping
- Free on every subscription order: Death Wish (continental US), Volcanica and Black Rifle (all checked Oct 15, 2026). What you see is what you pay, before tax.
- Free above a threshold: Café Don Pablo at $75 in the contiguous US, and Dean’s Beans at $89, excluding AK, HI and US territories (both checked Oct 15, 2026). One bag won’t get you there, so a single-bag delivery costs more than the table shows.
- A fee on every delivery: Bean Box charges $5.45 for 1 bag and $7.50 for 2 bags (checked Oct 15, 2026). On its Single Origin plan (whole bean, every two weeks):
- 1 bag: about $0.95 a cup becomes about $1.19 ($26.95 per delivery).
- 2 bags: about $0.88 a cup becomes about $1.05 ($47.50 per delivery).
- Shown at checkout: Amazon (free delivery depends on your order total or Prime) and Atlas, which says shipping is shown at checkout after you enter an address (checked Oct 15, 2026). Check the total before you pay.
First-order discounts
We rank on the ongoing price, because that’s what you’ll pay month after month.
- Volcanica: 20% off the first subscription order, 10% after (checked Oct 15, 2026).
- Death Wish: 30% off the first shipment, “up to 25%” after (checked Oct 15, 2026).
- Atlas: the Fall Sale makes the first Single shipment $10 instead of $20; it then renews at $20 (checked Oct 15, 2026).
- Bean Box: runs an intro offer too; see our deals page.

- Bean Box: billed one week before each delivery ships; cancel before 1 PM PT on the Wednesday before a shipment to avoid the next charge (checked Oct 15, 2026).
- Atlas: pause, skip or cancel anytime, with a 30-day money-back guarantee (checked Oct 12, 2026).
